The Multan-Sukkur Motorway M-5 still remains closed for traffic on Monday near Jalalpur Pirwala due to flooding.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) confirmed that the motorway is closed for all types of traffic to avoid any accidents. According to officials, the floodwater has damaged a portion of the road, and there is a serious risk of breaching due to erosion. To address the situation, rescue teams are carrying out stone pitching and placing sandbags at vulnerable points. These emergency steps aim to fill the gaps and stop further damage to the motorway.
At the same time, Kathia expressed hope that the danger would reduce soon. He explained that water levels are already going down in Punjab’s rivers. The flow at Panjnad has dropped to 392000 cusecs, and a major decline in floodwater is expected in Jalalpur Pirwala within the next 24 hours
Meanwhile, authorities have urged the public to avoid traveling on the M5 until further notice. Traffic diversions have been put in place, and travelers are advised to use alternate routes. The closure of the motorway highlights the destructive impact of recent floods, which have caused widespread damage to infrastructure and disrupted transport across the region. However, with water levels decreasing, officials believe the situation will gradually come under control in the coming days.
