Government announces strict rules for hide collection on Eid-ul-Adha

The Sindh government has issued a comprehensive code of conduct regulating the collection of sacrificial animal hides during Eid al-Adha 2026.

From now on, no one may collect hides without written permission from the relevant commissioner or deputy commissioner. Only registered welfare organisations and madrassas may collect hides, and groups already banned will not be allowed to operate under any other name. The notification bars are setting up collection camps and displaying banners for hide drives.

Use of loudspeakers and showing flags on vehicles for hide collection are also forbidden. Officials said collecting hides by force or coercion will bring strict action, and police have authority to register immediate cases against violators. If authorities seize hides gathered unlawfully, they will hand them to approved welfare organisations for proper distribution. The move aims to ensure transparency, prevent the exploitation of donors, and stop banned or extremist groups from misusing hide collection during Eid.

Officials added that the restrictions will protect public order and maintain oversight of sacrificial proceeds. They stressed that authorised groups must follow registration rules and operate transparently. The home department warned that anyone flouting the rules will face legal consequences, including confiscation of hides and criminal charges.

Separately, Karachi authorities announced a total ban on carrying licensed weapons from the 10th to the 12th of Zil Hajj as part of heightened Eid security measures. Police said this step will reduce tensions during peak days of religious observance and help maintain peace in the city.
