Sindh introduces winter guidelines for private Schools

The Sindh Education Department has released new instructions for private schools across the province regarding fee collection for the academic year 2026-27.

Schools are now directed not to charge matric students for any month beyond March and are strictly prohibited from adding extra fees specifically linked to board‑exam appearances. Students transitioning between Class IX and Class X have been given a different fee structure in order to prevent confusion in this transition.

Private institutions may still collect June and July fees in advance, but only during April and May, and each month must have a clear, individual fee voucher. June‑month vouchers will remain valid until June 30 and July‑month vouchers until July 31. The new fee structure will be applicable to pre-primary through Class IX students in the entire private sector and is expected to streamline the billing system and simplify the payment procedure by parents.

In a June-July fee controversy, the Sindh High Court gave a conditional allowance to a 9th-grade student in Karachi to take the next round of board exams in early this month. The family had questioned the school on issuing fee challans in June and July far ahead of time and the parents believed that this was against the prevailing rules. The intervention of the court brings to light an increasing question of the early fee collection practice of the private schools.
