The Sindh government has launched its Solar Home Systems (SHS) Project across four districts, with a ceremony in Khairpur attended by lawmakers, officials and local beneficiaries.
Pakistan Peoples Party Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has formally launched the second phase of the free solar program in Qambar Shahdadkot, distributing solar kits to deserving families. The project is under PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s clean energy initiative that will supply 275,000 households in the Sindh region with free solar systems.
Khuhro declared the programme will assist poor families to reduce high electricity bills amid inflation and the current energy crisis. The Qambar Shahdadkot alone will have 10000 solar kits, and already 247 of the eligible homes have been verified, and 100 families have been installed with systems at the launch. The process to identify more needy families continues so that maximum households can benefit in this and later phases.
Large-scale rehabilitation programmes are also being implemented by the Sindh government for people who have been affected by floods and already constructed new houses for millions of people including over 100000 in Qambar Shahdadkot. According to the PPP leaders, the free solar initiative will not only help to alleviate the economic burden on ordinary people but also contribute to the energy security in the long term and environmental protection in the province.
