Govt plan early school closures amid severe heat

Punjab faces hotter than normal weather from May 7 to 11.

PDMA warns most districts will see above average temperatures with possible heat waves. People prepare for uncomfortable days ahead while authorities issue safety guidelines. The Eid-ul-Adha holidays will most probably be from 27th May till 29th May.

There is a five-day-long weekend on May 30 and 31 because of weekend days. Families make arrangements for celebrations carefully, taking into account the heat and school commitments. Schools will be closed May 27, before the normal start of summer vacation on June 1.

This adjustment takes into account the timing of Eid while ensuring that students have more summer vacation. During the holidays, parents are pleased with extended family time. Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat proposes smart changes to vacation schedules.

He recommends a reduction in summer and winter vacations by a few days to make up for lost academic days. The plan increases the total school days to 190 each year, ensuring pupils complete the whole curriculum without stress.

Private schools apply for early morning summer camps. They would like to run the program from 7am till 10am during holidays to minimize gaps in learning. This is to ensure uninterrupted study for those who are interested without the heat of the day.

Final summer vacation dates are subject to the weather and the decision made by the Ruet-e-Hilal moon-sighting committee. The Education Department will make the dates for Eid confirmed once the temperatures make it clear and the dates for Eid are made clear.
