Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the abolition of quota for the recruitment of a family member of an employee who dies while on duty.
Previously, the policy allowed any family member of a deceased employee to be appointed. The decision aligns with a Supreme Court ruling, and the Establishment Division has directed all ministries and divisions to implement the changes. However, all other benefits under the relief package will remain unchanged.
The new policy will not apply to children of martyrs from law enforcement agencies or those who lost their lives in the war on terrorism. Additionally, heirs of government employees hired before this change will not be affected.
In a similar move, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has abolished job recruitment under the son quota system. The provincial government has officially notified amendments to recruitment, promotion, and transfer rules. Clause 4 of Rule 10 has been removed, and Clause 2 has been partially amended.
Previously, these clauses allowed the recruitment of children of deceased or disabled employees. The revised policies aim to create a more merit-based recruitment process across the country.
