Govt starts new program to support students emotional learning

The Government of Pakistan has started a nationwide program to bring Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into school curricula.

This initiative is aimed at developing the mental strength, emotional stability, and social skills of the students in parallel with their regular studies. Through this, it will be able to produce well-rounded youths who are prepared to face the real world. It is a program that collaborates with Right To Play and operates under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training.

It works closely with the Federal Directorate of Education to reach schools across the country. Officials signed the agreement in Islamabad, with senior leaders from education and partner groups present. In the program, teachers will deliver 25 SEL lesson plans for each grade during the school year.

These lessons create very crucial life skills such as emotional control, empathy, teamwork, collaboration and problem-solving. Students are taught to deal with emotions and cognition, collaborate and cooperate with others, and resolve problems in an effective manner.

In order to enable this to work well, teachers are specially trained. This assists them to create supportive and inclusive classrooms where all students feel secure and appreciated. Schools participating also receive sports kits to promote play based activities. Children learn to be leaders, resilient and have a stronger team spirit through games and fun exercises.

According to education leaders, this is a large-scale change towards holistic education. The program fosters personal development and social skills as opposed to concentrating solely on grades and tests. It trains students to become sensitive, self-confident individuals who will make up the more caring and progressive society.

Overall, this SEL program is set to have long-term positive effects. It provides the future generation with the means of emotional health, improved relationship, and success out of the classroom.
