The third phase of the Punjab government’s school privatization initiative is set to begin after Eid ul Fitr, targeting public schools with 100 or fewer students.
District education officers and heads of district education authorities across 43 districts have been directed to compile lists of schools eligible for this transition.
Many of these schools are located in rural areas, while some are in urban centers, particularly primary schools with low student enrolment. Officials say this step aims to reduce the financial burden on the government by shifting under-utilized institutions to private owners.
The move is expected to generate debate regarding its impact on students and accessibility to education, especially in remote areas. While authorities argue that private management may improve efficiency and quality, concerns remain over affordability and equal access to education.
