Pakistan’s healthcare infrastructure has been severely damaged by the recent floods across the country.
A new report submitted to the government confirms that 10 additional health centers have been affected, bringing the total number of damaged facilities to 130 nationwide. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the worst-hit region, with 60 health centers sustaining damage. In Punjab, the tally has climbed to 38 after 10 more facilities were damaged by floods. Sindh has reported 25 affected health centers, while Gilgit-Baltistan has seen seven facilities impacted.
Out of the total, seven health centers have been completely destroyed and rendered non-functional, while 123 facilities have sustained partial damage. Among these, KP lost three centers, Sindh two, and Gilgit-Baltistan two to complete destruction. Punjab faces further challenges, as eight health facilities remain inaccessible due to floodwaters, cutting off medical services for thousands of people in the region. In KP, 68 Lady Health Workers have lost their homes, with 28 houses completely destroyed and 40 partially damaged, adding further strain to healthcare delivery.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, two health centers have been wiped out completely while five others have sustained partial damage, leaving communities without access to essential medical care. Officials warn that the destruction has created serious risks for the delivery of health services at a time when flood-hit communities are in urgent need of medical support. Emergency response teams are working with provincial authorities to restore services, but many areas remain cut off.
The situation highlights the growing pressure on Pakistan’s fragile healthcare system as floods continue to damage infrastructure and disrupt access to vital medical facilities.
