The Meteorological Department has warned that a strong westerly wind stream will hit Balochistan from December 6 to 10 and may continue intermittently throughout the month.
This weather pattern is expected to bring much-needed rain, ending the drought in several districts including Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibi, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, Gwadar, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Qila Saifullah, Chaghi, Noshki, Washak, and Mastung. Heavy rains with thunderstorms are likely in some areas, while snowfall is expected in higher-altitude regions. Experts say that the northwest winds are more active than usual this year, and moisture from the Arabian Sea is moving toward Balochistan, which will prolong the rainfall.
Meanwhile, most parts of the country will experience cold and dry weather today. The hilly areas are expected to remain extremely cold during the morning and night. Light to moderate fog may form in some plain areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the early hours and at night. During the last 24 hours, the weather has been dry in most regions, with extremely cold conditions in the hilly areas. A few districts in the plains of Punjab experienced light fog.
Authorities have advised residents in affected areas to take precautions against the cold and be prepared for possible disruptions due to heavy rain and snowfall. Farmers and livestock owners have been asked to protect their crops and animals, while travelers in mountainous areas are urged to drive carefully due to slippery roads. The Meteorological Department continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the westerly wind stream progresses. The upcoming rains are expected to provide relief from the prolonged dry conditions and improve water availability across Balochistan.
