Flood devastation continues to escalate across Punjab and Sindh, with major rivers breaching embankments and displacing millions.
At Chachran, officials recorded a massive water flow of 837000 cusecs, raising serious concern about the next 24 to 36 hours, which have been termed critical for flood management. The water level at Guddu Barrage is also increasing, with the current flow measured at 537000 cusecs. Authorities warned that if the inflow continues to rise, the barrage could face a very high flood situation. Meanwhile, Sukkur Barrage is experiencing a flow of 422000 cusecs, while Kotri Barrage is handling 261000 cusecs of water.
On the other hand, the rivers in Punjab are showing signs of relief as water levels gradually decline. The Chenab River at Head Panjnad has dropped by 80,000 cusecs, reaching 604,000 cusecs. Similarly, the flow has reduced at Chiniot, Jasar, Siddhanai, and Head Baloki, bringing some respite to flood-hit areas.
In addition, flood pressure has broken at several critical points, including Head Khanki, Qadirabad, Trimon, and Ganda Singh Wala, easing the situation in Punjab’s central regions. Officials stated that while the overall situation in Punjab is improving, continuous monitoring remains essential due to the unpredictable nature of floodwaters. At the same time, Sindh remains on high alert as the Indus carries heavy inflows southward. The authorities are closely coordinating rescue and relief operations to ensure timely evacuation and protection of vulnerable communities. With millions already displaced and thousands of acres of farmland submerged, effective flood management in the coming days will be crucial to minimizing further damage.
