All schools in Sialkot will remain closed on 27th August 2025 after the city recorded its heaviest rainfall in more than a decade, crossing all previous levels of the last 11 years.
Heavy rains have hit Sialkot district, bringing more than 335 mm of rainfall and causing flooding in several areas. Streets and localities such as Rangpura, Allama Iqbal Chowk, Darra Arain and Prem Nagar have been inundated. The Meteorological Department has warned that more rain is expected in the coming days, raising concerns about further flooding. The flood situation worsened after Dek Nala overflowed, submerging nearby villages. Rescue teams are working actively to move affected residents to safer locations. Authorities are using all available resources to ensure quick evacuations and provide support to those trapped by rising waters.
In response to the emergency, Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Saba Asghar Ali has announced a local holiday for all educational institutions across the district. The decision aims to ensure public safety and keep students and staff away from flood-prone areas. To prevent accidents and maintain order, Section 144 has been imposed across Sialkot, restricting gatherings and movement in vulnerable locations. Officials have warned that strict action will be taken against those violating safety measures.
The deputy commissioner has urged citizens to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and keep a safe distance from rivers, streams and other flood-affected areas. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with rescue teams to manage relief operations.
