KARACHI – Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has been serving marginalised people across Pakistan for several years.
The government has launched various initiatives under BISP, including the Unconditional Cash Transfers (UCT) programme also known as “Benazir Kafaalat Programme”.
The Kafaalat programme was initiated in the year 2008. Since inception, the UCT/ Kafaalat initiative has grown to the extent that it is now the largest single cash transfer programme in Pakistan’s history.
Objective of BISP Kafaalat Programme
Short term objective of the programme is to cushion against negative effects of slow economic growth, food crisis and inflation on the poor, particularly women, through provision of cash assistance to eligible families.
The long term objectives of programme was to eradicate extreme and chronic poverty, along with women empowerment, as set out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Around nine million families are receiving cash assistance under Benazir Kafaalat programme. Starting The present Benazir Kafaalat stipend stands at Rs8,500 per beneficiary per quarter.
How To Receive Rs8,500 Under BISP Kafaalat?
Benazir Kafaalat cash assistance is disbursed to the eligible beneficiaries after Biometric Verification System (BVS) through two partner banks namely HBL in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan and Bank Alfalah in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
How To Check Eligibility for Rs8,500 Cash Assistance?
Female citizens can check their eligibility by sending their CNIC number on 8171. They can also check it online on https://8171.pass.gov.pk.
Process of Receiving Cash Stipend of Benazir Kafaalat
In case female is eligible and declared as beneficiary she will receive an SMS from 8171.
On receipt of SMS the beneficiary will be required to visit nearest HBL / BAFL POS / retailer in her tehsil along with her original CNIC to receive the first installment through biometric verification.
