India beat Bangladesh by 41 runs in the Asia Cup T20 Super 4 match and secured their place in the final.
Bangladesh, chasing India’s target of 169 runs, collapsed in the final over and were bowled out for 127. The defeat also ended Sri Lanka’s hopes of qualifying for the tournament final. Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first. Skipper Liton Das missed the match due to injury, and Ali led the side in his absence. Bangladesh made four changes to their playing eleven. India posted 168 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma once again proved to be India’s batting star, smashing 75 runs off just 37 balls with attacking strokes. Shubman Gill contributed 29, while Hardik Pandya added a valuable 38 runs. Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, and Shivam Dubey failed to make an impact. For Bangladesh, Rashad Hossain picked up two wickets.
In reply, Bangladesh struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Saif Hasan fought a lone battle with a brilliant 69, while Parvez Hossain scored 21. None of the other batters managed to cross double digits. India’s spinners and pacers shared the damage. Kuldeep Yadav claimed three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakraborty struck twice each to seal the comfortable win.
With this victory, India became the first team to reach the Asia Cup final. Their last Super 4 game against Sri Lanka on Friday will serve only as preparation before the title clash. Meanwhile, Pakistan and Bangladesh will face off on Thursday in what has now become a virtual semi-final. The winner of that contest will book the second spot in the final against India.
