Islamabad crackdown intensifies on smoke-emitting vehicles

Islamabad completed 1,563 vehicle emission tests in four days, while 334 more vehicles were cleared in the last 24 hours, as the city administration intensified its ongoing campaign against smoke-emitting vehicles to control rising air pollution.

The administration has also set up several emission testing points to make the process faster and more convenient for the public. These points allow drivers to reach the nearest facility and complete inspections without long delays. According to officials, public participation has increased, and 334 more vehicles passed the inspection in the past 24 hours alone. To manage the growing number of visitors, the Transport Authority has deployed additional staff at the busiest locations.

Meanwhile, vehicles releasing excessive smoke are being taken to police stations for further action. The Transport Authority has warned that no exemptions will be given during the crackdown. Violators will face fines and legal measures because such vehicles are a major source of air pollution.

To help citizens understand the process, an information desk has been activated. It provides guidance on testing points, required documents, and inspection procedures. The help desk also educates motorists on ways to reduce emissions and maintain their engines properly. Officials believe that better awareness will lead to more compliance and cleaner air.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has urged all motorists to get their vehicles tested at the nearest emission point. He stressed that the campaign aims to protect public health and improve air quality in Islamabad. Authorities hope that timely inspections, strict monitoring, and public cooperation will significantly reduce the pollution level in the capital in the coming days.
