Karachi police intensify crackdown on parking mafia

As part of the ongoing operation against the illegal parking mafia in Saddar, 12 more individuals have been arrested for extorting citizens under the pretense of parking fees.

Authorities in Saddar have launched a strict operation against members of the so-called parking mafia who were illegally charging motorists. The action targeted illegal parking and unauthorised fee collection in central Saddar, including Regal Chowk, Abdullah Haroon Road, and surrounding areas.

Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bangwar, leading the anti-encroachment and parking mafia drive, personally visited Preedy Police Station to oversee the operation. He ordered the registration of 12 additional cases and had 12 more suspects arrested and shifted to the police station. All cases were filed based on complaints from traffic police regarding unlawful charges and harassment of citizens.

This crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to restore law and order in the city. So far, over 40 cases have been registered, and more than 30 individuals have been taken into custody for involvement in illegal parking and extortion.

The assistant commissioner warned that authorities would not tolerate any form of encroachment or unlawful parking in Saddar or elsewhere in the city. He urged those involved in illegal activities to put their affairs in order, emphasizing that strict action would continue until the problem is fully addressed.

Officials highlighted that the operation aims to ensure a safe and lawful environment for citizens while cracking down on organised extortion by the parking mafia. Citizens have welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step toward reducing harassment and improving city traffic conditions.
