The government has announced that passport services will be available at two NADRA Mega Centres in Karachi, located at 5 Star Chowrangi and Siemens Chowrangi (SITE), in order to ease congestion at the central passport office.
This decision follows a recent visit by Mustafa Jamal Qazi, the Director General of Passports, to Karachi, where the plan to offer passport services at NADRA centres was finalized.
Sources indicate that passport services will soon be extended to approximately 11 NADRA Mega Centres across Pakistan, including those in major cities like Karachi. This initiative aims to enhance the accessibility and convenience of passport services for the public.
During recent inspections, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Karachi’s 24/7 Passport Office at Awami Markaz and the NADRA Defence Mega Centre, where he interacted with citizens to gather feedback. He reassured them that delays in passport issuance are being addressed, and citizens are now receiving their passports within the expected time frame.
Director General Mustafa Jamal Qazi confirmed that the backlog of pending passports has been cleared. Since July 1, over 3.3 million passports have been printed, including 776451 normal passports, 1.9 million urgent passports, and 703656 fast-track passports.
Qazi praised the efforts of the production team for their dedication and hard work in clearing the backlog. He also advised citizens to collect their passports directly from regional passport offices, as the delivery process has been completed and there is no longer a need to wait for notifications.
