The University of Karachi has issued a new set of guidelines regarding student attire, emphasising the importance of maintaining a respectful and modest appearance on campus.
Released on January 14, 2025, by Dr. Nosheen Raza, the Students Adviser, the guidelines are aimed at ensuring students maintain a professional appearance on campus. The dress code prohibits clothing that is provocative, offensive, or distracting.
This includes revealing or see-through outfits, shorts, sleeveless or tight-fitting clothing, and garments with inappropriate graphics or language. Casual footwear, such as flip-flops, is also banned on campus. The university expects all students to follow these rules while on campus.
In an interview with Geo.tv, Dr. Raza explained that the university regularly issues such notifications as part of its efforts to maintain discipline among students. With more than 45000 students enrolled, Karachi University is one of the largest institutions in Pakistan. As the new academic year begins, many new students have joined, with even more expected as evening admissions are still ongoing.
Dr. Raza emphasized that this notification is aimed at informing new students about the university’s dress code. She added that wearing modest clothing is a standard requirement mentioned in the university’s code of conduct. The notification is part of routine efforts to guide students in maintaining proper behavior and appearance while attending the university.
