Kartarpur gurdwara lost in floods

Severe floods in Punjab have engulfed the historic Kartarpur Gurdwara, trapping an estimated 200 to 300 people.

Floodwaters from the Ravi River have entered Kartarpur after a protective embankment near Bheko Chak collapsed, cutting off major routes including the Narowal–Shakargarh road. Officials confirmed that the breach was caused by an extraordinary surge in the river, where over 250,000 cusecs of water is currently flowing at Kot Ninan in Shakargarh. The collapse has left several areas under water, including Bheko Chak, Nowshera, Nowgaza, Mandikhel, Bhajna, and the Kartarpur Main Highway. The situation has disrupted road connectivity and posed serious risks to nearby communities.

The Pakistan Army, along with the local administration, has launched large-scale rescue and relief operations. Teams are working to evacuate families stranded in flood-hit areas and shift them to safer locations. Emergency services are also providing food and medical support to affected residents. Flooding is not limited to Kartarpur. Authorities reported extremely high water levels in the Chenab River at Marala, with inflows reaching 769000 cusecs and an outflow of 762000 cusecs. At Khanki, water flow has touched 755,000 cusecs, while the Ravi at Jasar continues to face dangerous levels.

Meanwhile, Shahdara recorded a Ravi flow of 72000 cusecs. At Baloki Headworks, inflow stood at 79000 cusecs with an outflow of 67000 cusecs. Further downstream, Ganda Singh Wala recorded 245000 cusecs, and Sulemanki registered 100000 cusecs. Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay alert and follow evacuation orders. With more rainfall forecast in the coming days, officials warned that river levels could rise further, worsening the situation.
