In a major step toward enhancing public safety and combating terrorism, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police has officially launched the Safe City Project in the most terrorism-affected southern districts of Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat.
A contract agreement for the Safe City Project was signed at the Central Police Office in Peshawar. DIG Information Technology and Project Director Rai Ijaz Ahmed signed on behalf of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police, while General Manager Commercial Syed Amir Javed signed for the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC). Inspector General of Police KP, Zulfiqar Hameed, called the Safe City Project a major step in fighting terrorism, especially threats linked to the Khawarij group. He said the system will help in tracking and removing terrorists. It will also reduce street crime and other illegal activities.
The statement said the project will be completed in six months. It will cover important and sensitive locations in three southern districts of KP. Under the plan, more than 400 high-resolution cameras will be installed at 86 key sites in Dera Ismail Khan. In Bannu, over 300 cameras will be placed at 69 locations. In Lakki Marwat, 250 cameras will be installed at 42 points. These cameras will help police keep a close watch on criminal movements and improve law and order in the region. The system will also support faster response to emergencies and allow better investigation of incidents.
