The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise Department has decided to roll out fancy and special number plates.
Under the proposed amendments, special and fancy number plates will no longer be issued at fixed fees but will instead be offered to bidders through an organized auction system. According to the draft, the fee for fancy number plates may go up to Rs150000, depending on the category and demand. In addition, the base price for a specific number plate has been set at Rs1 million, marking a significant increase from previous charges. Officials believe this change will make the process more transparent and ensure that premium numbers are issued fairly.
The document also suggests setting the fee for number plates that include three identical letters and three identical numbers at Rs100000. These combinations are considered highly desirable, and the new pricing is meant to regulate demand and prevent misuse. Furthermore, authorities will seek objections or suggestions from citizens within a 15-day period before finalizing the amendments. This step aims to ensure public participation in the rule-making process and provide an opportunity for feedback on the proposed changes.
Once the consultation period ends, the final decision will be made based on the input received. Officials noted that the updated rules are designed to improve revenue generation and streamline the issuance process for special number plates. They added that the changes will help eliminate irregularities and bring clarity to how premium numbers are assigned. Overall, the proposed system is expected to modernize the number plate issuance process, create more accountability, and allow citizens to compete fairly for special plates through official auctions.
