Loss-making Discos to be handed over to Pak Army by the Government

Pak Army will not have the power to act against the corruption of energy distribution companies. A serving brigadier alongside FIA and IB officials will monitor Discos.

Islamabad – Pakistan Army will be given jurisdiction to monitor the loss-making energy distribution companies so they can monitor them and investigate the corrupt elements as the government has set forth a clear agenda to take strict actions against the corrupt elements in Discos to ensure an efficient power supply and usage throughout the country.

According to sources, a serving Brigadier from the Army alongside his staff that will consist of FIA officials and officials from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) will oversee the the loss making discos at the Performance Monitoring Units (PMUs)

The team will have authority to mandate and take action against the people stealing electricity.

The Secretary power stated that we have carved out a plan which is yet to be approved by the higher authorities. However, the top authorities from the power division are all set to implement this plan.

The Secretary of power also stated that this will ensure that the perpetrators are caught and punished and save the nation from billions of rupees worth of loss.

The Caretaker Energy Minister stated on September 6, that a crackdown has been initiated on the energy thieves and the culprits will be caught as the nation has faced a loss of Rs 589 billion just in the last fiscal year.

Even though the results have been good but the loss-making discos are still going to be headed by the teams of the PMU to oversee them further.
