Meteorologists have forecast that the 2025 monsoon season in Pakistan may extend until the end of September, a shift from the usual mid-September conclusion, owing to ongoing changes in climate patterns.
According to experts, monsoon winds are expected to shift toward southern Pakistan starting from August 10. This change will likely bring more rainfall to southern regions, including Sindh and Balochistan, in the second half of August. Officials added that the overall monsoon season this year may last longer than usual. Normally, the monsoon ends in southern Pakistan around September 15. However, in 2025, the rainy season could continue until the end of September.
This longer duration could increase the risk of urban flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The authorities have advised people in southern regions to stay alert and take early precautions. Experts also noted that changing climate patterns are shifting not only the timing but also the geographic influence of weather systems. The imbalance in rainfall between north and south this season is one such example.
Local administrations are being urged to clean drainage systems, strengthen embankments, and ensure emergency response teams are prepared. Public awareness campaigns are also being suggested to guide residents on how to stay safe during heavy rainfall and possible flooding. Meteorologists will continue monitoring the monsoon system closely and issue timely updates as new patterns develop.
