NADRA refutes CNIC change claims for AJK residents

NADRA has refuted online rumors of a policy change regarding the inclusion of Resident of AJK State on Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), clarifying the application process.

To obtain this designation, applicants must provide a valid State Subject Certificate issued by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government. NADRA clarified that recent social media rumors about a policy change are false and meant to mislead the public.

Between December 2024 and January 2025, NADRA issued over 50000 CNICs with the Resident of AJK State designation. However, some CNICs were issued without the designation because applicants did not submit the required State Subject Certificate or due to errors in data entry.

To resolve this, NADRA has contacted the affected individuals and will reissue corrected CNICs at no cost. Additionally, NADRA has asked applicants who failed to submit the correct certificate to reapply with the necessary documents and pay the required fees to get the correct designation on their CNIC.

This proactive measure by NADRA ensures that all residents of AJK are accurately recognized with the correct CNIC designation.
