Nadra suspends services to CDA

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced a significant upgrade to its identity verification process with the introduction of facial recognition technology.

Starting January 15, 2025, citizens will be able to access this new system through the Pak-ID mobile app and at NADRA registration centers nationwide. This development follows a conference held at NADRA headquarters, where officials from various regulatory bodies and stakeholders gathered to discuss ways to improve biometric and identity verification systems.

The meeting focused on addressing the challenges of the current system and exploring solutions to enhance the verification process for citizens. One of the main concerns raised was the difficulty elderly citizens and pensioners face due to faint fingerprints, which make it challenging for them to verify their identity.

NADRA’s new facial recognition system aims to resolve this issue, making identity verification more efficient and accessible for everyone. Alongside facial recognition, the conference also explored the potential benefits of Iris scanning technology, which could further streamline the identification process.

However, discussions also acknowledged the challenges that may arise with its implementation. Additionally, the workshop covered the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework and the Digital Economy Enhancement Project, both of which are integral to Pakistan’s efforts to modernize its digital services and boost the economy.

Overall, the new facial recognition system promises to simplify verification for citizens, reduce delays, and improve the efficiency of government services, ensuring a smoother and more accessible experience for all users.
