KARACHI – A woman accused of killing a man and his daughter in a road accident on Karsaz road in Karachi has been sent on judicial remand to jail.
A local court in Karachi approved the remand after the suspect was produced before it. During the hearing, the police had sought a 14-day remand for the accused.
The defense lawyer argued that the charges against his client were bailable. In response, the investigating officer stated that Section 322 (murder by negligence) had been added to the case, and this section is non-bailable.
During the hearing, the court asked the accused if the police had used any force against her. The woman suspect named Natasha Danish Iqbal denied this.
Subsequently, the court sent the accused on judicial remand to jail and directed the investigating officer to present the challan at the next hearing.
A day earlier, the wife of a prominent industrialist, who was apprehended following a fatal car accident, has been sent on a physical remand.
Natasha is said to have caused an accident while driving intoxicated on Karachi’s Karsaz Road resulting in her SUV hitting a motorcycle, other vehicles and several pedestrians before plunging onto the service road.
As a result two people killed on the spot, while the third succumbed to his injuries later in hospital. Two persons died on the spot while four persons were seriously injured who were taken to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention, rescue officials said.
The deceased were identified as 62-year-old Imran Arif and his 23-year-old daughter Amina.
