KARACHI: The husband of Natasha Iqbal, who’s been accused of recklessly driving and killing two people while injuring three others on Karachi’s Karsaz Road, was granted seven-day protective pre-arrest bail by the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday.
Danish Iqbal had moved SHC through his counsel asserting that he had been named suspect alongside his wife in the Karsaz Road accident case even though prosecution had nothing to connect him with the alleged offence.
The counsel sought two-week protective bail to enable the applicant to approach the IO and join the investigation.
After a preliminary hearing, a single-judge bench of SHC headed by Justice Muhammad Saleem Jesser in his order said: “Prima facie, without dilating upon the merits and demertis of the case, applicant Danish Iqbal son of Iqbal Ali Mohammad is hereby granted protective pre-arrest bail in crime No.229/2024, under Sections 320, 337-G, 279, 247 PPC read with Section 322 PPC, registered with PS Bahadurabad, Karachi, for seven days subject to furnishing his solvent surety in the sum of Rs.50,000 and PR bond in the like amount to the satisfaction of Nazir of this court”.
Natasha Iqbal’s medical report made part of Karsaz Road accident inquiry
According to SSP Investigation, police will present Natasha Iqbal’s medical report in court. The contents of the report will disclose whether Natasha was drying under influence or not at the time of the accident.
Natasha Iqbal was said to be driving under influence when she lost control of her SUV speed causing it to ram into a motorcycle before plunging onto the service road. The accident took place on August 19.
The impact from the collision led to the deaths of two people – 62-year-old Imran Arif and his 23-year-old daughter Amina – on the spot, while four others sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
