Nationwide electricity costs likely to decrease

The government is preparing to reduce electricity prices as the latest monthly fuel cost adjustment signals relief for consumers across Pakistan. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested a 65-paisa-per-unit cut, aiming to ease the financial burden on households.

A fresh proposal has been submitted to reduce electricity prices once again, and officials confirmed that the adjustment is tied to October’s fuel cost changes. NEPRA is set to review the request during a hearing on November 27. The proposed cut will apply across the country, including Karachi, so all consumers may benefit if the authority approves it.

In recent weeks, households have already received some relief. The government is currently applying September’s fuel cost adjustment, which brought a reduction of 48 paisa per unit. That earlier decrease helped ease pressure on consumers who are struggling with rising expenses.

If NEPRA approves the new request, the upcoming cut will become the second monthly reduction in a row. The move reflects the government’s effort to stabilise power tariffs through regular adjustments that follow international fuel price movements. Officials believe that keeping electricity costs aligned with global market trends is essential for long-term financial stability.

Consumers, meanwhile, are watching the process closely and hoping for continued relief. Many families are facing heavy utility bills and ongoing inflation, and even small reductions can offer much-needed breathing room. Energy experts say that consistent price cuts over multiple months could significantly ease household budgets if fuel costs remain favourable.

NEPRA will issue its decision after the scheduled hearing, and authorities are expected to announce the final per-unit change once the review is completed. The development has created cautious optimism among consumers, who are looking forward to potential savings in the upcoming billing cycles.
