Forty-eight percent of Pakistanis are unaware of Punjab govt’s August and September Rs14 electricity bill relief while 47pc expressed ignorance.
In August, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif announced a relief package for electricity consumers in Punjab, reducing the power tariff by Rs14 per unit for those using up to 500 units.
The relief was set to apply to bills for August and September.
While the move was praised in Punjab, it faced criticism from opposition parties such as PPP, PTI, and MQM-P, who argued that it was an attempt to politicise electricity issues.
According to a recent survey, awareness of this relief is mixed across Pakistan. The survey found that 59% of urban residents are aware of the power bill relief, while only 52% of rural residents know about it.
The gender gap is also evident: 58% of men are informed about the relief, compared to just 37% of women.
In cities, 59% acknowledged the relief, while 39% were unaware. In rural areas, 52% of people are unaware of the initiative, with 41% confirming they know about it.
This highlights the need for better communication and outreach on government initiatives.
