Bad news for Pakistanis seeking asylum abroad

The Directorate of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P) has clarified media reports suggesting a substantial increase in passport fee, noting that there’s been no change in passport fee structure since March 7.

Recent reports suggested that the federal government had revised the fee structure for e-passports, machine-readable passports (MRPs), and passport replacements to streamline the passport issuance system.

The report noted that the new charges were added to support more efficient services, and updated rates depend on the type of passport and processing speed selected by applicants.

“In addition to the updated fees for passport applications, the government has introduced new charges for replacing lost passports. The fee for replacing a lost passport for the first time is set at Rs54,000. However, the cost increases significantly for repeat losses, with the fee for a third-time loss now standing at Rs356,000,” read one report.

However, the Passport Directorate has dismissed these reports, reassuring citizens about the cost to obtain a new passport or renew existing ones.

Latest Normal and Urgent Category Inland Passport Fee

As mentioned before, the Passport Directorate last revised its passport fee for inland and overseas categories on March 7.

The fee for 36-page ordinary passport for five years, as of November 11, is Rs5,500 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges), while the urgent processing fee has increased to Rs8,500 ((inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges).

For 10-year validity period, the fee for 36-page passport has been increased from Rs6,700 to Rs7,700 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges), with the urgent fee rising to Rs12,200 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges).

For 72-page passport for 5 years, applicants will have to pay Rs9,200 ((inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges) for normal processing and Rs14,500 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges) for urgent processing.

For 100-page passport valid for 10 years, the new fee surged to Rs14,500 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges) for regular processing and Rs28,200 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges) for urgent processing.
