Pakistan’s first genetic molecular laboratory has been inaugurated with the cooperation of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America (APPNA), an organisation of Pakistani-origin doctors based in the United States.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Karachi Press Club, was attended by prominent figures, including APPNA President Dr. Asif Mohiuddin, General Secretary Dr. Rizwan Naeem, and the Vice Chancellors of JSMU and Dow University, Prof. Amjad Siraj Memon and Prof. Dr. Saeed Qureshi.
Dr. Mohiuddin emphasized the lab’s importance in detecting genetic disorders and potential diseases in newborns, particularly premature infants.
He described the lab as a major leap forward in medical diagnostics, offering new opportunities to identify health risks early on.
Prof. Memon highlighted the lab’s state-of-the-art technology, which allows for the early detection of genetic defects. This technology can even determine a child’s genetic makeup and identify their gender by extracting fluid from the mother’s womb.
The lab is set to play a crucial role in modernizing healthcare in Pakistan by enabling the early detection of genetic disorders and improving the country’s diagnostic capabilities.
