In the second ODI of the three-match series, Pakistan defeated Australia by an incredible nine wickets at the Adelaide Oval, helping the national team improve their ICC ODI rankings.
With the victory, Pakistan tied the series at one. The series final is scheduled for Sunday in Perth.
With fiery pacer Haris Rauf taking five wickets and openers Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub scoring strong half-centuries, the Men in Green were outstanding on the pitch and easily chased down the score.
In addition to tying the series, Pakistan’s resounding win allowed them to pass South Africa in the ICC ODI team rankings. Unexpectedly, given their recent dismal record in the format, the Green Shirts have risen one spot to number three.
Prior to losing in the group stage of the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, Pakistan had a terrible Asia Cup run last year, losing at the Super 4 stage.
Pakistan has only participated in two ODI matches since then, both of which have taken place during the current ongoing series in Australia.
Pakistan came roaring back in Adelaide and easily defeated a formidable Australian squad, despite a terrible run of performances over the previous 12 months.
In order to record an outstanding accomplishment and guarantee their third-place status, Pakistan will be trying to win the third game of the series and complete the series.
Before playing a tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand early next year, Pakistan will play a three-match ODI series against South Africa and Zimbabwe to be ready to defend their coveted Champions Trophy title.
