PESHAWAR – A family court in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan awarded three-month jail sentence to a man for marrying second time without the nod of his first wife.
The family court announced the ruling in a case filed by the woman against her husband in 2022. Judge Ghulam Hamid also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict identified as Sajjad Khan.
The court ruled that the convict could face another 15-day imprisonment in case of failing to deposit the fine amount.
Police arrested the convict from courtroom after the verdict and shifted him to the Central Jail.
It is obligatory for a man to get permission from the first wife for the second marriage.
As per the law, the family court can award up to five years jail sentence.
