Pakistan’s security lies solely in the hands of its armed forces and not Kabul, said Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant-General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry while briefing senior journalists on Monday.
DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stressed that Pakistan’s defense institutions remain strong and independent, and they alone will ensure national stability and sovereignty. He also rejected rumors of any agreement allowing US drones to operate from Pakistan.
During the briefing, he reiterated that Pakistan never celebrated the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan and continues to take strict action against militant groups, including TTP and BLA. He noted that counter-terrorism operations are ongoing in different regions, targeting those involved in attacks on security forces and civilians. He emphasized that these actions are intelligence-based and follow national and international law.
Addressing questions about cross-border terrorism, the DG ISPR said Pakistan has clearly told Afghan authorities during the Istanbul talks that Afghan soil must not be used for terrorism. He urged Kabul to hand over militants who escaped from Pakistan during earlier operations so they can face justice at home.
He also highlighted that terror groups still benefit from a strong link between militants, drug traffickers, and warlords. According to him, networks like the TTP earn millions through opium cultivation and smuggling, which funds terrorism and threatens regional security.
Furthermore, he shared that intelligence-driven operations continue without launching large-scale offensives, and nearly 200 security personnel have been martyred during recent actions. He added that decisions regarding administrative posts in the army and any move towards federal rule are made by the government, stressing that the military follows constitutional authority and remains committed to national security.
