The management of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) reported that authorities apprehended an employee for importing expensive cell phones from Canada on Monday.
After arriving at the Islamabad airport from Canada on aircraft PK-782, PIA flight steward Faisal Majeed was found in possession of sixteen high-end phones.
Customs officers discovered Majeed’s phone wrapped around his torso as he was being checked. The PIA employee received a show-cause letter after the incident, with three days to respond.
“Your actions have harmed PIA’s reputation,” the show-cause stated, adding that failing to provide a sufficient response will result in service termination.
An attempt to smuggle millions of dollars’ worth of cell phones at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi was stopped by Pakistan Customs in May 2023.
Officials stationed at the International Departure were occupied with inspecting travelers from overseas, according to a Customs representative.
Credible information on an attempt to smuggle iPhones was given to the workers during the process.
Passengers who traveled from Dubai to Karachi were detained as they stepped up the screening process.
During the surveillance, the Customs officers checked the passenger’s bags and found over 35 cell phones, including iPhone XS and X-max models, valued at around Rs 10 million.
Due to his failure to provide the customs officials with his tax information, a complaint was filed against the traveler.
