PM Shehbaz to meet Trump on UNGA sidelines Sept 25

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to meet US President Donald Trump during his upcoming visit to the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

Sources revealed that the meeting is likely to take place on September 25 and will also be attended by Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir. According to diplomatic insiders, efforts to finalise the meeting have gained momentum, especially after recent Israeli airstrikes in the region and the emergency summit of Muslim countries held in Doha. Qatar and Saudi Arabia are reportedly backing the arrangements for this high-level engagement.

While President Trump is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 23 and host a traditional reception for world leaders, the possible bilateral meeting with Pakistan is being carefully coordinated. The agenda, time, and venue are still being finalised, but officials indicate that regional security, humanitarian challenges, and bilateral cooperation will dominate the talks. Key topics expected in the discussions include the impact of Israeli aggression on Qatar, ongoing flood disasters in Pakistan, and the tense situation between Pakistan and India. The inclusion of both political and military leadership from Pakistan highlights the importance Islamabad places on this meeting.

Diplomatic sources suggest that the dialogue could help Pakistan strengthen its international position, particularly as it seeks wider support on regional conflicts and disaster relief. However, the Pakistani embassy has declined to either confirm or deny the possible meeting, maintaining silence as preparations continue behind the scenes. If the meeting takes place, it will mark an important moment in Pakistan-US ties, offering both sides an opportunity to address pressing regional issues while exploring ways to enhance cooperation at a time of rising tensions in the Middle East and South Asia.
