Punjab and North Pakistan see showers from westerly winds

Authorities on Wednesday issued a weather alert following forecasts of heavy rain and snowfall across the country on January 22 and 23, warning that the spell could trigger flooding in streams and lead to road blockages.

Snowfall was reported in Ziarat, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, Kozhak Top, and Qila Abdullah, where cold conditions intensified and visibility reduced in hilly areas. Due to heavy snowfall, emergency measures were taken in Kan Mehtarzai to keep roads open and ensure public safety. In addition, rainfall in Quetta led to power outages in several areas, causing inconvenience for residents. After snowfall, cold weather intensified in Nushki, where temperatures dropped further, adding to the hardship for locals.

In the upper regions, the mercury has fallen several degrees below the freezing point, increasing the risk of icy roads and travel difficulties. Authorities have advised residents and travelers to take precautionary measures, particularly in mountainous areas where snowfall continues.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain in Karachi from this afternoon to evening, which may provide temporary relief from dry conditions. However, heavy rain and snowfall on the mountains are expected in Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir throughout the day.

Furthermore, intermittent rain is also expected in Islamabad, Punjab, and Sindh, which may lead to cooler temperatures and slippery roads. Officials have urged citizens to remain cautious, especially during travel, and to follow weather advisories.

With winter conditions tightening their grip across northern and western regions, authorities remain on alert to respond to any emergencies. The ongoing weather system highlights the need for preparedness, as rain and snowfall continue to affect transportation, power supply, and daily routines in several parts of the country.
