Electricity company employees are receiving 300 to 1300 free electricity units each month.
The information was shared in the Senate, where lawmakers were briefed on how many units different categories of staff receive every month. During the briefing, officials confirmed that employees of DISCOs, GENCOs, NTDC, PITC, and WAPDA continue to receive free electricity according to their job grades. The data revealed that IESCO records the highest monthly consumption under this facility, reaching 256,500 units.
According to the report, employees from grade one to grade four get 300 free units each month. Those in grades five to ten receive 600 units, and the same number is provided to employees from grades 11 to 15. Grade 16 employees also fall under the 600-unit category. Moving to higher ranks, grade 17 officers are allowed 650 units, while grade 18 officers receive 700 units. The allocation increases for senior officers, with grade 19 receiving 1,000 units and grade 20 receiving 1,100 units. The highest category, grades 21 and 22, receive 1,300 free units each month.
Officials added that across 13 electricity companies, a total of 318,445 units of free electricity are provided monthly under this system. The data has raised new questions about the overall burden on the national power sector at a time when the country is facing rising costs, line losses, and high consumer tariffs. The Senate is expected to continue reviewing these figures as part of its effort to bring transparency to the power sector and examine whether such privileges should be revised in the future to reduce pressure on national resources.
