Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has announced the removal of employees holding fake degrees from Pakistan Television (PTV).
The process of verifying the employees’ degrees is set to be completed by January 31. The Minister emphasized that if 200 employees had to be dismissed due to fake degrees, it would be done.
Tarar also pointed out that the previous management had a never go home policy, rehiring retired employees at high salaries. As a result, 12 individuals hired under this policy have already been dismissed. The current steps aim to ensure transparency and foster a merit-based work culture at PTV.
During the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information meeting, discussions also took place on proposed changes to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
Committee member Asiya Naz Tanoli proposed creating a board to oversee content on entertainment channels, focusing on dramas and advertisements that may not be suitable for family viewing. The PEMRA chairman confirmed that talks with channel representatives had already started and suggested forming a sub-committee for further consultations and strategy development.
Additionally, the committee focused on ways to enhance transparency and the quality of media content in PTV and PEMRA’s operations, aiming to improve oversight and promote responsible broadcasting. These actions reflect the government’s commitment to improving the media landscape and ensuring a professional, transparent work environment.
