Govt reveals official holiday schedule

The Federal Government has declared September 6, Saturday, as a public holiday across Pakistan to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Peace Be Upon Him) and Defence Day.

The notification confirms that all government offices, ministries, schools, and private organizations will remain closed on Saturday. Provincial governments are also expected to issue similar orders in line with the federal decision. The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee had earlier confirmed that the Rabiul Awwal moon was not sighted last week, setting the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, which falls this year on September 6, as the date for Eid Milad-un-Nabi.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi, also called Mawlid al-Nabawi, commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). Muslims across the world mark the occasion with prayers, gatherings, recitations, and religious processions. The day emphasizes the Prophet’s message of peace, mercy, and guidance for humanity. This year, the occasion coincides with Pakistan’s 60th Defence Day, observed every year on September 6 to honor the martyrs and veterans of the 1965 war. The overlap of both significant days highlights not only the spiritual values of the nation but also the sacrifices of its armed forces.

Religious institutions and mosques across the country have planned special programs for the day, while security arrangements are being tightened to ensure peaceful observance. Officials stated that the public holiday provides citizens the opportunity to take part in religious events and reflect on the teachings of the Prophet. Meanwhile, Defence Day ceremonies will also be held to remember the courage and dedication of Pakistan’s armed forces. By combining the celebration of Eid Milad-un-Nabi with Defence Day tributes, this year’s observance is expected to carry both spiritual and national importance for people across Pakistan.
