Punjab CM launches electric buses at Rs20 fare

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that residents of several districts will soon enjoy safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly travel on electric buses at a fare of just Rs20.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that 100 electric buses are being shipped from Yantai, China, and will depart for Pakistan tonight. These air-conditioned, Wi-Fi-enabled buses come with a fully automated ticketing system and are designed to provide safe, peaceful, and comfortable travel. The CM said the service will start on a priority basis in districts that have long lacked reliable public transport, including Mianwali, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Pakpattan, and Dera Ghazi Khan. The buses will also be accessible to persons with special needs. She added that the Punjab government is committed to offering modern, affordable, and eco-friendly transport to all citizens, especially in underserved areas.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that 100,000 laptops will be distributed free of cost to talented students across the country based strictly on merit. Speaking at an event in Islamabad marking International Youth Day, he said the laptops will go to high-achieving students according to their academic performance, ensuring transparency and fairness in the process. The laptop distribution will cover all four provinces, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister urged the youth to use these opportunities to strive for excellence and contribute positively to the nation’s progress.

He also referred to Pakistan’s victory on May 10 in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos against a numerically larger enemy, calling it a source of renewed national spirit. He encouraged the younger generation to build on this determination and work towards bringing pride to the country through dedication and hard work.
