The Punjab government has formally launched the “Plastic-Free Punjab Pledge” campaign as a key part of its major environmental initiative.
Punjab has officially started a major anti-plastic campaign by banning the use of plastic bags that are thinner than 75 microns or smaller than 12×16 inches. This move is part of the “Plastic-Free Punjab” drive, led by the Environment Protection Department, to control pollution and promote a cleaner and healthier environment. Punjab’s Secretary for Environment, Salwat Saeed, along with Director General Imran Hamid Sheikh and other officials, visited different commercial areas to inform shopkeepers and businesses about the new policy.
They asked shopkeepers to stop using harmful plastic and switch to eco-friendly options instead. Officials clearly said that from now on, no plastic bags under the set thickness will be made or sold. Strict action will be taken against those who do not follow the rules. Salwat Saeed added that this is a big step toward protecting both the environment and public health.
He explained that single-use plastic is dangerous not just for nature but also for human health. The campaign wants people and businesses to use green and safe alternatives. Business owners are being guided and encouraged to avoid harmful plastics and move towards better, nature-friendly products. This campaign is seen as an important shift toward sustainable living in Punjab and aims to set a strong example for the rest of the country.
