The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), following the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has started installing panic buttons in women’s colleges and universities across Lahore.
This move aims to strengthen security and provide students with a quick way to seek help in emergencies. In the first phase, the system has been installed in 39 institutions. Officials confirmed that the project will expand to more than 450 women’s colleges across Punjab in the coming months. The panic buttons are directly connected to the PSCA’s central control room. When pressed, they immediately send an alert to the Virtual Women Police Station, ensuring a rapid response from the police. This initiative is designed for situations where students cannot access their mobile phones and need quick assistance.
The PSCA stated that panic buttons are already active at 122 locations in Lahore and 101 other sites in different cities. Extending this technology to educational institutions marks a major step in improving public safety and using technology to protect students. The spokesperson explained that this initiative is part of a larger plan to create a safer environment for women and students across Punjab. By expanding safety tools to campuses, the government aims to give young women confidence and security during their academic activities. This step highlights the role of technology in ensuring protection and timely support in emergencies.
