The traffic police in Punjab have issued more than 23,000 driving licences within the last 24 hours.
According to a spokesperson, more than 23,700 driving licences were issued in the last 24 hours, while over 37200 challans were handed out to violators. The fines collected during this time amounted to Rs21million. Police also took action against 343 smoke-emitting vehicles, with 29 of them impounded at local stations. The spokesperson said the Inspector General of Punjab Police has directed strict measures to ensure road safety and curb pollution.
The IG further noted that 127 driving training schools are being run by Punjab Police to promote safe driving habits and provide professional training to citizens. These schools aim to reduce violations and create awareness about responsible road use. In addition to regular enforcement, mobile licence vans are providing easy access to driving licence services in different areas. Recently, a van visited Scut village in Tehsil Kallar Syedan on September 2 and Kuri Dolal village in Tehsil Gujar Khan on September 3. On September 4, the mobile van reached Raja Bazar near Fawara Chowk, Rawalpindi, while on September 5, it will be available for residents of Jhawara Picket Dhamial Camp.
Authorities believe such initiatives not only improve access to licensing facilities but also encourage more people to obtain valid licences and follow traffic laws. With stricter monitoring, fines, and awareness campaigns, Punjab Police aim to improve road safety standards and address environmental concerns linked to unfit vehicles.
