The Punjab government has launched “clinics on boats” to provide medical care in flood-affected areas, as large swathes of South Punjab remain inundated after severe flooding in the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab rivers.
The Punjab government has stepped up efforts to provide historic healthcare services to flood victims, with a strong focus on women and children living in relief camps. A wide-ranging program has been launched to address health needs in all affected districts. Following the Chief Minister’s directions, 968 Clinics on Wheels and medical relief camps have been set up across flood-hit areas. Special attention is being given to maternal care, including medical checkups for pregnant women and the supply of multivitamins, sanitary kits, and other essential items.
To ensure timely medical assistance, a 24-hour rural ambulance service has been deployed for transfers to Maryam Nawaz Health facilities and nearby hospitals. Specialist doctors are visiting camps daily to provide treatment for children, while routine vaccinations for newborns are also being carried out without interruption. Dedicated medical services are available for those suffering from insect bites, skin infections, gastrointestinal problems, cholera, and malaria. Authorities have stocked camps with enough ORS, antibiotics, and other vital medicines to meet the demand.
In addition, screening and treatment programs have started for malnourished children to fight nutritional deficiencies among flood-affected families. Medical teams are working continuously to ensure that no child is left untreated and that vulnerable groups receive proper care. With these measures, the Punjab government aims to protect thousands of flood victims from health risks and provide safe and reliable medical support during one of the worst flood crises in Pakistan’s history.
