Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday announced the launch of the next phase of the Honhaar Scholarship Programme.
She encouraged students across Punjab to apply with confidence and continue their education with dedication. The program, launched last year, has so far benefited 80000 students and offers scholarships in 68 disciplines. At present, 50000 students are receiving scholarships, and this number will rise by another 30000 in the coming phase. The scheme covers students from 50 public sector universities, including those enrolled in MBBS and BDS programs.
Applicants must be citizens of Punjab, under 22 years of age, and from families earning less than Rs. 3 lakh annually. Selection will be based on academic performance, with 30 percent weight given to matriculation marks and 70 percent to intermediate marks. To make the process easier, information desks have been set up in universities to assist students in applying. This initiative aims to ensure that talented students from low-income families can pursue higher education without financial worries.
Maryam Nawaz said that the youth’s ambitions are vital for Punjab’s progress and assured that the government will continue to support them. She highlighted that the program is designed to make quality education accessible, helping students focus on academic excellence and personal growth instead of financial constraints.
