The Punjab government has revised the distribution formula for the electric taxi scheme, and for the first time, women will be given a share in this eco-friendly initiative.
Officials confirmed that the government aims to encourage environment-friendly transport and make it easier for citizens to join the commercial driving sector. Under the revised plan, women will receive 100 electric vehicles through a belting system, giving them better access to work in the transport field. This step is expected to help more women become financially independent and expand their role in public mobility. Along with this, 200 electric vehicles will be given to male taxi drivers so they can start or grow their driving businesses.
In addition, the government will provide 800 electric vehicles to corporate taxi operators. These companies will be able to add more clean-energy vehicles to their fleets, which will improve passenger services and also reduce fuel expenses. The earlier plan to supply 1,000 vehicles interest-free to corporate commercial drivers remains part of the overall strategy.
Another part of the program allows 100 electric vehicles to be distributed directly to citizens. This option gives individuals the chance to run their own transport business without relying on large operators. Authorities believe this will make commercial driving more accessible for people from different backgrounds.
The Provincial Minister for Transport said that the new formula focuses on equal opportunities and long-term economic benefits. More drivers will be able to use electric vehicles, which will lower pollution levels and support cleaner urban transport.
