Severe earthquake tremors were felt across Islamabad, parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Gilgit-Baltistan on Saturday afternoon.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the quake occurred at 12:28 PM local time, with its epicentre located near Dera Ghazi Khan in southern Punjab at a depth of 10 kilometres
Residents in cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, Faisalabad, Mianwali, and Swat experienced the tremors, prompting many to evacuate buildings in fear. Despite the widespread shaking, no casualties or significant property damage were reported. Authorities, including Rescue 1122 in KP, were placed on high alert as a precautionary measure.
This event marked the second earthquake in the region within a fortnight, following a 5.4 magnitude quake on August 29, 2024, which also affected parts of KP and Punjab. The recurrence of seismic activity has raised concerns among residents and officials alike.
The PMD continues to monitor seismic activity closely and urges the public to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols during such events.
