Schools and offices shut on August 28 in this city – See full details

The Deputy Commissioner of Attock has declared a public holiday across the district on Thursday, August 28, to mark the Urs of Hazrat Sakhi Sultan, a respected Sufi saint.

The official notification states that all government offices and schools will remain closed, while essential services will continue as usual. The Urs of Hazrat Sakhi Sultan is celebrated every year with religious devotion, attracting devotees from across the country. Local authorities have urged the public to follow security and traffic guidelines to ensure smooth arrangements during the celebrations.

Meanwhile, the Islamic month of Rabiul Awal has started, marking the third month of the Islamic calendar. With the new moon sighted, Eid Miladun Nabi, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), is expected to fall on September 6. According to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the 12th of Rabiul Awal will be observed nationwide on September 6. The federal government traditionally announces a public holiday for this occasion, and celebrations are planned across the country.

Muslims around the world commemorate this day with prayers, processions, and gatherings to honor the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In Pakistan, the day is marked by special programs, charity activities, and religious events. Authorities are expected to announce security and administrative measures closer to the date to ensure peaceful celebrations. Citizens have been advised to cooperate with officials and avoid unnecessary travel in congested areas during the processions.
