Govt informs Senate of plans to privatise Hajj operations

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has opened the second phase of receiving applications for Hajj 2026, with the process continuing through its online portal and designated banks until Saturday.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has started the second phase of receiving Hajj applications, allowing unregistered intending pilgrims to apply from August 11 to 16. In the first phase, more than 71000 applications were submitted. According to the ministry’s spokesperson, applications are being accepted through the official online portal and designated banks. The first installment of Hajj expenses will be received until Saturday. Overseas Pakistanis can also apply through a close relative in Pakistan via designated banks. Applicants will need to submit medical fitness certificates upon arrival in the country.

The ministry has clarified that applications will stop being accepted once the national quota is filled. This year, Pakistan has a total Hajj quota of 179210 pilgrims for 2026. Out of these, 129210 seats have been reserved for the government scheme, while 60000 seats will be managed by private tour operators. The spokesperson said that unregistered pilgrims in the country have a chance to submit their forms during this phase, and the process is designed to be simple and accessible. Authorities have urged applicants to complete the requirements on time to avoid any last-minute problems.

The Hajj policy aims to facilitate both local and overseas Pakistanis, making the process easier and more transparent. The ministry has advised all intending pilgrims to stay informed about application deadlines, follow the official instructions, and ensure all necessary documents are prepared in advance. With the application window open for a limited time, officials expect a large number of submissions in the coming days. The government has assured that all arrangements are being made to provide pilgrims with better services during the holy journey.
